'Gift of Painting Brightens Hospice' by Richard Evans, 13 February 2003
A renowned Colombian artist has donated one of her paintings to Trinity Hopsice in Clapham. Cristina Rodriguez helped hang the piece - The Picnic - in the reception area on Friday. Cristina studied at The Slade School of Fine Arts in London and has held exhibitions in various countries over the last 16 years.
Her South American background has influenced her confident use of bright oil colours. Cristina said: 'The Picnic at Trinity Hospice is a tribute to life. It is inspired by attending the Trinity Hospice Summer Open Day, an event at which joy and music co-exist with corners of quiet reflection.'
Anne Hooper, the chief executive of the hospice, was delighted with the gift. She said: 'We are thrilled that Cristina has donated this painting to the hospice. It is an impressive painting that is full of colour and feeling. By hanging it in our recetion area it will be enjoyed by patients, staff and all who visit the hospice.'
The hospice, which is thought to be the oldest in Britain, provides care for those with terminal illnesses. Patients are cared for in Trinity's in-patient unit, in its day centre or at home by a team of dedicated home care nurses.
